Little Hat {Giveaway}

And we have a winner!
Oh, you all make giveaways fun. :)
I loved to read your cap and color choices,
and was also thrilled to hear about the babies
who have just been born or will be born
sometime this year!

Our winner, chosen by random.org is in fact expecting!
And her name is

She said,
“LOVE the hats!!
And being preggo makes me want a little one for this little one :)
Probably would go neutral or white.”

Congratulations on being winner, Wilma, but even more, on that baby who will wear the hat. :)
I will contact you with the details.

Last year, just a few weeks before Christmas,
I contacted Rosa about crocheting a couple of hats for my girls . . .
and in time for Christmas too, if she could manage.
{I don’t tend to be last minute or anything~ever! sarcasm}

She asked for approximate sizes/head measurements,
colors that I preferred, and within a very short time,
a few days if I remember right,
the hats were finished and delivered!

I loved them.
I still love them!
And you can imagine my great sadness when,
only a week or two later,
we lost Sophia’s hat
at the church where my brother got married.
We searched high and low~to no avail.
I called the church later to check with their lost & found.
I then left information
on how to contact me or mail the hat to me
if they should ever find it.

A few weeks later . . .
after the bride & groom returned from their honeymoon,
my new sister-in-law messaged me to say
that a darling little gray hat was found among her pile of things
gathered together and brought to her house from the church.

Oh. Happiness.
I was thrilled and so thankful!

So. That’s the dramatic beginning of life with hats we love. :)
This season with the hats has been far calmer (and they still fit very well!),
and of course, we’d like to keep it that way.

Except to say, that we have loved our hats so much,
that we would like to introduce you to Rosa, the “hatmaker”

photographer-sister, Diane}

And in celebration of these “introductions” being made today,
Rosa has graciously offered to give one hat to a reader of this blog.

The randomly-chosen winner will choose one hat
for either a boy or a girl (from newborn to about 5 years),
and discuss the details of design & color with Rosa herself.

Jesus Calling {Book Review & Giveaway}

And the winner of these two Jesus Calling books is . . .

who said,
” I’ve really benefited from journaling as well…
to apply the Word to my life, to pray it to God,
and also to remember what I’m learning!
I haven’t read this book yet, but I’ve heard good things from friends.”

You should have received an email from me, Judy.
Please contact me with your mailing information.

Thank you all, once again, for your interest in reading & good books.
It’s always a pleasure to hear from you!

I had been hearing frequently from friends in various parts of the country, that this book has been a great source of comfort and inspiration to them in daily life, as well as in their grief as they walked through valleys of great loss and sorrow.  So when the opportunity came to review this book, I jumped for it!

Jesus calling~Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young and published by Thomas Nelson Publishers is a daily devotional book written as though Jesus were speaking to you in first person. Here is one day’s entry:

“Seek My Face, and you will find not only My Presence but also My Peace.
To receive My Peace, you must change your grasping,
controlling stance to one of openness and trust.
The only thing you can grasp without damaging your soul is My hand.
Ask My Spirit within you to order you day and control your thoughts,
for the mind controlled by the Spirit is Life and Peace.

You can have as much of Me and My Peace as you want,
through thousands of correct choices each day.
The most persistant choice you face is whether to trust Me or to worry.
You will ever run out of things to worry about,
but you can choose to trust Me no matter what.
I am an ever-present help in trouble.
Trust Me, through the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

Romans 8:6; Psalm 46:1-2

Since this is a daily devotional book, I have not had the time to read each entry, but what I have read has been a blessed call to trust and rest in the Lord! The words are not direct Scriptural quotes, but thoughts derived from Scripture that is listed at the bottom of each devotional reading.

It’s easy to fall into the routine of reading the Word, but failing to receive the Words of Life from the heart of God to me personally. Journaling as I read has been a great help in this over the years {a way to pray and speak God’s Words back to Him}, and I find this book, Jesus Calling, to be another helpful tool in reminding me of the personal nature of my relationship to Jesus and how He wants His words to impact my daily walk.

If you would like a chance to read this book for yourself {as well as a copy of the children’s edition, Jesus Calling~365 Devotions for Kids}, please leave a comment with as little as a smiley face or a word or two . . . just to let me know you’ve entered. :) {US Mailing addresses only please}. This giveaway will close  February 15th and your books will ship shortly thereafter. Thank you.

{PS. Also come back later this week for another giveaway that I am quite excited about! If you have a little person in your life or need a great baby gift, I know you will be pleased!}

Pretty Pink Stuff

And we have a wInNeR!

random.org chose #12 as the winning number . . .
and that happens to be Amy who said,

“My favorite Valentines Day was the year I was living in Germany.
My (now) husband and I had just started dating.
He was still in America so he came to see me over Valentines Day.
We had such a romantic time exploring my old German city!”

Um, can’t really get more romantic than that, now can you?
May the pack of pretty pink stuff add an extra touch of nice-ness
to your Valentine’s Day this year, Amy.

{You should have received an email from me by now.}

Thanks, everyone! I enjoyed each. and. every. comment!!
Thanks for joining in the fun and sharing
your Valentine memories and traditions.

Just because I have a few things around here that I love . . .

And because they all happen to be pink.
And because I appreciate you all
who tell me {wherever I go}
that you stop by and visit this little blog . . .

Because of all that,
and because Valentine’s Day is just around the corner . . .
I thought it would be fun to share these things with one lovely lady!

1. Mentha Shimmer Tint from Bath & Body works that I have been enjoying.
2. PINK lotion by Victoria’s Secret.
3. The February copy of Living by Martha Stewart
4. The 10-pack Sassy & Sophisticated cards that I love from Dayspring!
5. Chocolate!! {not pictured}  Because every woman & every Valentine’s Day,
if not every day, should include a little dark chocolate.

Please leave your name and, oh, I don’t know . . .
Inspire me with something you do now or used to do as a kid on Valentine’s Day?
My mom {My Dad was in charge of the Easter treats}
used to always make Valentine’s morning special for us all
with handmade notes and cards . . . and of course a little treat.
I don’t really remember it being so much just about my dad & mom,
but kind of a whole-family-celebrating-love-kind-of-day. :)

As kids, we loved it!
Now that our children aren’t just babies anymore,
I’m trying to make it that kind of day for them too.
Phil and I have run the whole gammot of
big expensive dinners out by ourselves,
to less expensive, but equally delicious and fun dinners
with couples from our church,
to simply staying home and inviting some of our
favorite single people to join our family for a special meal.
I love both and kind of like not being locked into
one particular way of doing things.

Oh, and we also have a running joke about this being
a “non-appliance holiday” ever since a friend from church
was telling a story about her marriage and how she had to “teach”
her husband that Valentine’s Day was the one holiday when she
would be thankful for a gift that wasn’t an appliance!!

It really struck a cord with us since I have a husband
who loves to give appliances. {And I do love to get them!}
And wouldn’t you know, I got an awesome appliance last year for Valentine’s Day!
It was a bullet-type hand blender for smoothies and other great things!
Thankfully it was red. 😉

1.) So yes, leave your name
and a way for me to contact you.

2.) USA residents only, or at least a US mailing address for those
of you who are Canadian friends . . . buried in snow right about now
and perhaps needing pink cheer in your lives. 😉

3.) This giveaway will close on Saturday, January 26th.
The winner will be announced the following Monday
and the package shipped to the winner ASAP!
