Counting Down the Days

The month of May has been a whirlwind of activity and wonderful times with both family, friends, my husband-to-be, and my Lord. In the first week I had two fun Bridal Showers to attend! The Pampered (Chef) Bride Show was planned by Mom, Heidi & Katrina. I received many useful kitchen tools from that evening, thanks to the generosity of so many neighbours and friends! The other shower was planned by Deb Brown, a wonderful friend from Kenora, and the people who attended were mostly homeschooling mothers, their daughters, and a few other friends we’ve made over the years. What a fun evening, and once again, I received many wonderful gifts to stock our new home!

In the second week of June, one of my bridesmaids, Priscilla Loewen, planned a girls’ outing for me, Heidi, Katrina, and Priscilla’s sister Hannah. We’ve all been friends for . . . a long time and it was so much fun to go do something special like this together. We drove to Cove Point Lodge on Lake Superior in Minnesota, and though the weather was quite cold and dreary, we had a great time relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Thanks, girls, for the memories!

From June 19-23 I was in PA again to visit my man and attend the wedding of two dear friends. This trip was short but worth every moment. Phil and I (with the help of his family) were able to get our place cleaned and ready to move into next month!! The Lord also answered our prayers for finding furniture that we liked and that was within our price range–so very exciting to actually think about setting up house for the two of us!

And now I’m back home with my family again, counting down the days til June 16th!We’ve all been working busily both inside and outside the house to get this place in shape for the many guests that will be around here over the time of the wedding. It’s fun to work with my family, treasuring these moments that will never again be ours in this way. This is one of the happiest times of my life, but it is definitely bittersweet. Each family member expresses their love for me in different ways, and the fact that they realize our days together as a family in this way are limited. It makes me miss them so much already–and I haven’t even moved yet! But it also makes the parting easier, knowing that they stand behind me and Phil as we begin our own home together. So, yes, the countdown is on. Only 18 days to go!!

April Highlights

One of my favourite things about April was flying to PA with Ben and spending time there together with Phil and his family. The first several days there we painted our little house until we had had quite enough of it. Ben faithfully painted and put up with his sister’s paint-colour changes. The red room will always remind me of you, Ben! Thanks!

We did manage to make time for fun that week too. We took a train to Philidelphia and spent most of a day sightseeing, feasting on delicious Philly Cheesesteaks, and doing a bit of shopping at the Borshe. One evening we also went to the Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster and watched the awesome production of Behold the Lamb!

Another highlight was spending part of a day with Clarita and Bethany . . . “old” friends from SMBI. We ate lunch together, catching up on each other’s lives, and then we went shopping for my wedding shoes and wedding music. I couldn’t figure out, though, why when evening rolled around, these busy women still weren’t ready to call it a day. Finally, a little after 7:00 PM they decided that they really should drop me off and be on their way. I finally understood their actions when I walked into the Nissley home and was greeted with “Surprise!” from about 25 women who had come to a bridal shower for me!! The women in Phil’s family had done a great job of planning everything and it turned out to be a great evening!
